week 25, 2025
This is the second edition of my public weekly review. This week, we returned from a trip to Lago Maggiore. I enjoyed the city vibes in Zürich, visiting the "Badi" (Swiss swimming pool), and catching up with friends again. One highlight was visiting a meetup with the baby :)
Picture: enjoying the book "tiny experiments" by Anne-Laure Le Cunff on my balcony last night.
What I was thinking about:
What could a "digital detox" month look like? I don't believe in getting rid of my phone completely for that time, but I'm figuring out ways to manage my online time better and prioritize offline activities.
It will help to have "offline" or "non-screen" or "tiny-screen" alternatives for important use cases:
- taking pictures: I bought a digital camera that works like an analog film camera with no screen and no distraction
- listening to music or podcasts: this should be possible from my Apple or Garmin watch and Bluetooth headphones
- navigating: physical maps? (haha)
- emergency phone calls: via the Apple Watch
The idea that I currently have is an approach like "mostly offline, with focused internet sessions" (so I can get stuff done, too).
Recommendations:
- The Open Source Nanny shares honest, anonymized stories from ambitious working parents in the tech ecosystem about their childcare models, costs, challenges, and advice on what works for them.
- "The AI tools I'm actually using daily" - by Jonathan Courtney, a podcast episode on Spotify
- The Lifestyle Factors That Matter 8 Times More Than Genes (article on 10almonds)
Looking Ahead:
(My intention for next week)
- Every morning, I'll note down the top three things I'd like to do that day whenever the baby is sleeping, so that I can start doing them right away. Did this before, stopped doing it for a while, missed it, will do it again :)
